Strike Brings Life to a Standstill in Belgium – Flights Disrupted at Airports

Thousands of workers across Belgium staged a one-day strike in response to government plans to cut social spending, including unemployment benefits and pension rights. Organized by labor unions, the strike led to widespread disruptions in both the public and private sectors.

The most significant impact was felt at airports, where ground handling and security staff walked off the job. Departing flights at Brussels and Charleroi airports were entirely canceled, with only arriving flights permitted. The shutdown at Belgium’s two largest airports left both passengers and airlines in a difficult situation.

The strike also severely affected public services and transport infrastructure, as unions called on the government to reconsider its austerity measures.
